Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Midori has reached out to current and past recipients of PiP grants to offer virtual events for the audiences in their communities.
The PiP virtual events included a virtual recital consisting of a pre-recorded performance of Midori and pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute, followed by a Q&A session with Midori via Zoom, talking program notes presented by Midori, masterclasses and inclusion and advocacy roundtable discussion with the presenters and their participants.
Between March and May, the following 11 presenters, located in all six time zones in the US, have participated in a total of 26 PiP virtual events: Chamber Music Charleston (Charleston, SC), Blue Sage Center for the Arts (Paonia, CO), Music in Corrales (Corrales, NM), By Chamber Concerts (Camden, ME), Garth Newel Music Center (Warm Springs, VA), Melbourne Chamber Music Society (Indialantic, FL), Ridgecrest Chamber Music Society (Ridgecrest, CA), Honolulu Chamber Music Series (Honolulu, HI), Dowson-Boyd Arts Association (Dawson, MN) and Juneau Jazz & Classics (Juneau, AK).
Several presenters had over 100 audiences listening to Midori's performance of violin sonatas by Grieg and Franck, and intimate and invigorating discussions on inclusion and arts advocacy took place among participants. The "PiP family" were connected through music even virtually, while we were physically far away, with the normal concert-going experiences had been put on hold.
